Hamner Barber Mock-umentary Revealed Online

The Hamner Barber Variety Show has been playing in Branson, Missouri since 2004. Over the years, one of the most commonly asked questions by visitors to the popular Branson show has been… “How did Dave Hamner and Jim Barber team up”? The surprising answer can be found in the form of some rare never-before-seen film footage that was discovered packed away in a dusty broom closet beneath the stage of the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City.

 See the Amazing Untrue Story!

For a few seasons, this video mockumentary played before the show and detailed how the team of Hamner and Barber came into existence. For the very first time, this actual fictitious film footage is being released to the general public. Also included are some genuine photos and video clips of the two variety artists from earlier in their careers before they formed the Hamner Barber Show in Branson, Missouri.

The two boys playing the parts of young Hamner and Barber are actual brothers from Branson, Missouri… Payton and Ethan Greiner. Of course if magician Dave Hamner and ventriloquist Jim Barber really did meet in 1920 at the age of 10, they’d be over 100 years old today. The truth is, they are both in their early 30′s… YEAH RIGHT!

The 3rd Annual Branson Gong Show is back for another hilarious evening of comedy and excitement this Wednesday evening (February 22nd) at the Hamner Barber Theater. The show begins at 6:49pm sharp, and all ticket proceeds go towards funding the Branson Senior Center’s “Meals On Wheels” program benefiting homebound seniors in the Branson area.

Jim Barber, who serves as the Master of Ceremonies for the fundraiser, paid a visit to the “Ozarks Local Live at 4pm” TV show at the KOZL studio in Springfield, Missouri today along with another celebrated Branson entertainer, “Joan Rivers,” aka Terry Wayne Sanders.

Terry will be one of four celebrity judges who will share the important duty of deciding who will win the talent competition, and who might have to endure the wrath of the “gong.”

Dim Branson Billboard Reflects A New Bright Idea

A new promotional vinyl billboard on display at the intersection of Roark Valley Road and Shepherd of the Hills Expressway in Branson, Missouri is creating quite a lot of buzz for the Hamner Barber Theater that sits just half a mile to the West on the Expressway.

The theater has been leasing this billboard location for the past few years, and even though the sign no longer has active electrical power, it has been very effective at promoting the popular magical variety show during the daylight hours.  This year however, a new bright idea is casting a nice reflection on this once dimly lit sign that is making it a valuable night-time marketing tool as well.

In what may be the first use of reflective vinyl on a large format Branson area billboard, the Hamner Barber Show sign developed locally by Ink Works, a division of Image Works, Inc. is now working overtime by reflecting the ambient light cast by oncoming traffic.  Not only does this colorful sign catch the attention of passing traffic during the day, the brightly reflective text also promotes the show during the dark of night when Branson theater goers are en-route to their favorite Branson entertainment destinations.

Our celebrity guests have the important task of judging the great and not-so-great talent that will be competing in this year’s show.

This event has been a smashing success each year due to the volunteer efforts of several fearless performers, three wacky judges, the talented Gong Show Band, two beautiful “hoopa” girls, one sparkling scorekeeper, a wonderful warm-up man, a crazy comedian host, and an energized audience who came for a great evening of fun and laughter!

This year’s show is under the direction of respected musician and show producer Bogie Bohinc, who helped developed the annual event since it’s inception with Harry & Carolyn Watterson.

Bogie is an accomplished guitarist who grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a major studio recording artist for many years in Los Angeles, and has worked with hundreds of the top names in the music industry in Las Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, and Atlantic City. In Branson he has served as guitarist and musical conductor for many headline artists including Andy Williams, Tony Orlando, Ann Margret, and the “Ragin Cajun” Doug Kershaw. He is married to City of Branson Alderwoman, Chris Bohinc.

Christine Thompson, with the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging is the Director of the Branson Senior Center for whom the charity event is staged. She feels the past year’s show have been a huge hit not only for the audience but also for the “Meals on Wheels” program that they sponsor.

“We had such a great crowd, it was just awesome. It was sort of like a wedding in that we did all this planning and practicing, and it was over in a flash. Those funds will help so many programs for seniors, not only in this area, but all over Southwest Missouri.”

Branson Gong Show Host: Jim Barber

Branson ventriloquist and celebrity host Jim Barber will keep things flowing and sooth the emotions of the unfortunate performers who may hear the sound of the gong, generously donated for use at the event by Reliable Toyota of Springfield, Missouri.

Speaking of Jim Barber, the guy did a smooth job of keeping all the zanies at bay and keeping the show moving at a good pace. We had thought the show would run long, however, after beginning at 6:49pm, the Gong Show concluded about 9:15pm.

The new slate of judges for the 2012 edition of the Branson Gong Show are busy practicing their swings so they can compete with past celebrity judges: magical illusionist Dave Hamner of the Hamner Barber Variety Show, amazing impressionist Bob Anderson, and the multi-talented singer, guitar player and impersonator George Trullinger.

Those judges by the way… had an unenviable task of judging and gonging some of the acts. Don’t ever ask this writer to be a gong show judge. I just couldn’t do it. Incidentally, the “gong” used for the show was donated by Reliable Toyota. Barber was quick to point out that when the gong was hit, it just kept on going.

Each year, the winners clearly stand out from a few of the strange and wonderful gong-worthy acts. At times, the crowd jeers the judges to take a swing at even some of the better acts, yet when the smoke clears there will be three winners. Be there to share in the fun and excitement yourself!

Hamner Barber Brochure Gets A High-Tech Facelift

Since the production first opened in 2004, the marketing materials used to promote the Hamner Barber Variety Show have evolved to reflect new additions and changes to the popular Branson variety show as well as provide a freshness to the promotional materials distributed throughout the performance season. These design updates help the show brochure stand out from the hundreds of other Branson shows and attractions that are available for Branson visitors to select from during their vacation to the Ozarks.

QR Code… It’s Hip To Be Square!

This year, the Hamner Barber Show brochure is not only sporting a new, fresh design, it is also incorporating some high-tech options that will make it easy for visitors who carry smartphones (ie, iphone, android phones, etc.) to connect to various social media websites promoting everything from streaming video, Facebook, Twitter, directional maps and secure, online ticketing options for the Hamner Barber Show.

QR codes have been around for several years, but this is one of the first years where the use of smartphone technology has saturated the cell phone market enough to make it an important marketing tool for businesses of all types to incorporate into their promotional materials. QR is short for “quick response” and is a way to redirect your smartphone or computer browser to a website or online media source. QR Code applications can be created at companies such as YouScan.me and free QR Code Reader Apps can be downloaded from the Android Market or iTunes.

The Branson variety show QR codes are incorporated into the design on the back of the new Hamner Barber Show brochure, but you can take a test drive yourself by scanning the code above with your own smartphone (or click on the image if you don’t have one with a QR code scanning app) to see a mobile formatted webpage with links to various social media sites that are popular with fans and friends of the Hamner Barber Theater.

The inside of the 2012 Hamner Barber Show brochure has also been updated with several new images taken during the show by photographer Ami Bernhardi of Capture Me Photography & Design.  Included is a sneak peek at one of several new magical effects to be included in the production this season.  This new, original illusion entitled “The Grid” is a spectacular combination of laser lights, music, motion and dance and promises to be a highlight of the show.  Dave and Denise Hamner have made it a practice to present their own original illusions in a manner that the audience has never experienced at any other magic show in the world.  If you haven’t been to the Hamner Barber Show in recent years, we hope you’ll be sure to attend in 2012 and experience all that is new in this amazing Branson show! And when you get to town, be sure to pick up the new Hamner Barber Show brochure at any of the display racks in the area.  Full distribution is expected to be completed by early March.
